Step 8: Veterinary Health Certificate and Export Permit

Arrival in Australia

Upon arrival, pets are required to complete:

• 10 days of quarantine

Transportation to Australia
Pets may travel to Australia only as cargo.

Within 5 days before travel, obtain:

• Veterinary Health Certificate
• UAE Export Permit

Your pet’s identity must be verified by MOCCAE.
This must be completed before the Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre Test (RNATT) blood sample is collected.
Please note:

• The identity check and the rabies titer blood draw cannot be performed during the same veterinary visit.
• The identity verification document is completed by MOCCAE and provided directly to the Australian authorities.

Additional Requirements for Dogs

Leptospira interrogans serovar Canicola Vaccination
All dogs entering Australia from a Group 3 country must be vaccinated against Leptospira interrogans serovar Canicola.
This is a standard vaccination in the UAE, and many dogs are already vaccinated.

Brucella canis (Brucellosis) Test
This requirement applies only to dogs that are NOT desexed.
Requirements:

• A government-approved veterinarian must collect a blood sample.
• The sample must be tested using one of the following methods:
• Rapid Slide Agglutination Test (RSAT)
• Tube Agglutination Test (TAT)
• Indirect Fluorescent Antibody Test (IFAT)

Timing:
Testing must be completed within 45 days of the export date.

Leishmania infantum (Leishmaniosis) Test
A government-approved veterinarian must collect and test a blood sample using one of the following methods:

• Indirect Fluorescent Antibody Test (IFAT)
• Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA)

Step 7: Parasite Treatments

External Parasite Treatment

For Cats:

• Begin treatment at least 21 days before export.
• Continue treatment according to the manufacturer's instructions.

For Dogs:

• Begin treatment at least 30 days before export.
• Continue treatment according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Internal Parasite Treatment
A government-approved veterinarian must treat your pet for:

• Nematodes
• Cestodes

Requirements:

• Two treatments are required within 45 days before export.
• The treatments must be administered at least 14 days apart.
• The second treatment must be given within 5 days before export.

Step 6: Book Post-Entry Quarantine

Book your pet’s mandatory post-entry quarantine stay in Australia.

Step 5: Apply for the Australian Import Permit

Submit the import permit application and pay the required fees.
Processing times:

• Most permits are issued within 20–40 business days.
• In some cases, processing can take up to 123 business days.

Step 4: Get the Titer Test Declaration from MOCCAE

Once the Rabies Titer Test results are available:

• Visit MOCCAE with your pet.
• Obtain the official Titer Test Declaration.

Step 2: Verify Rabies Vaccination Status

The Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre Test sample must be collected between:

• 12 months before export, and
• 180 days before export.

Important:

• Your pet cannot be exported to Australia until at least 180 days have passed from the date the RNATT sample arrives at the laboratory.

Check your pet’s rabies vaccination status.
Requirements:

• The rabies vaccination must be valid before the Rabies Titer Test is performed.
• If this is the pet’s first rabies vaccination, you must wait 30 days before conducting the titer test.

The UAE is considered a Group 3 country by the Australian authorities.
